TypePad offers a feature they call 'pages'. Essentially 'sticky posts', they allow me to post items that I think might be of general interest and show them over there- on the left?
I'm often asked about reference materials, so I am adding a couple of sticky posts on the subject. These are 'annotated bibliographies', meaning they include a personal description.
Don't forget my Plant ID classes at Barron Collier High School. This is a 6-week course taught on Thursday evenings starting June 14. You will learn about 100 plants.
You can go to the Web site for more info and to pre-register.
This is a fun class. I usually talk about design, irrigation, and lighting, too, in addition to the plants. Summer is usually a much smaller group, so take the opportunity please and join in on the fun!

My column this week focuses on licensing Landscape Architecture in Florida (ok, yes, it's a 'filler' column; I'm busy this week, ok?)
For those interested, Florida licenses Landscape Architecture in the same way that it licenses physicians, engineers, and other professions: through the Department of

Well, Glory Be!
Back in the glory days, my office was equally engaged in Master Land Planning and Master Landscape Planning. The former involves laying out the roads, buildings, and amenities that a new community needs, including lake locations, bridges, entry features, and the like.
There's a big brouhaha in the blogosphere. Sam Harris, noted intellectual, has come out in favor of profiling. A post called 'In Defense of Profiling" starts out, reasonably, by pointing out how silly our TSA-led efforts are:
The current system appears so inane that one hopes it really is a sham, concealing more-ingenious intrusions into our privacy.
We should profile Muslims, or anyone who looks like he or she could conceivably be Muslim, and we should be honest about it. And, again, I wouldn’t put someone who looks like me entirely outside the bull’s-eye (after all, what would Adam Gadahn look like if he cleaned himself up?) But there are people who do not stand a chance of being jihadists, and TSA screeners can know this at a glance.

Bidders could be heard speaking Chinese and English (and, some said, Norwegian), but the mystery winner bid over the phone, through Charles Moffett, Sotheby’s executive vice president and vice chairman of its worldwide Impressionist, modern and contemporary art department. Gasps could be heard as the bidding climbed higher and higher, until there was a pause at $99 million, prompting Tobias Meyer, the evening’s auctioneer, to smile and say, “I have all the time in the world.” When $100 million was bid, the audience began to applaud.
Be sure to subscribe to Stephen Brown's YouTube Channel. He's prolific and smart! (and if you don't know, Dr. Brown is Lee County Extension Horticulture Agent).

Is Season Over?
Vegetable gardening is over for the season here at Peace and Plenty. Or is it? This year, Arugula continues to hang on, even as the tomatoes at last refuse to germinate.
We are using Sweet Potato as a cover crop this year, ordering ‘slips’ from the Tater Man (www.taterman.com). We are already seeing new leaves after only a few days in the ground.
Going Out On A Limb
There are thousands of commonly available tropical plants. Why are the same hundred or so plants used over and over and over?
