People ask me where to buy plants so that they can plant themselves. I do not know of anyone who will sell wholesale to casual buyers, but here are a few local sources that sell at quite reasonable prices.
The 'big boxes' and the retail garden centers should be a last resort as the prices there are always high.
Here are a few sources, in no particular order:
- Sanctuary Nursery. Phone is 239.692.9630. Harald and Betzy are very smart about plants and will get you what you want at a fair price. They operate a nursery that is near Corkscrew Sanctuary, but they also sell at the Farmer's Markets locally.
- American Farms: These guys are huge producers of seasonal flowers and similar specialty plants that you see around town in the fall. However, they also have a small 'outlet-style' store in town, located just north of Temple Oranges, on the east side of Airport- Pulling Road and opposite Trade Center Way. I don't have a phone, as I usually just go over there. Prices are good.
It's worth the trip.
- Don't be shy about the internet. While plants are small when shipped, I've been able to get very unusual plants this way.
If you find a source locally please let me know ( ms at msadesign dot com).
